AHTC History
Our History
2004-The community need for an aviation-based institution is recognized and a concept envisioned by former Lockheed leadership and local community leaders.
2005-The United States Air Force leases 15.5 acres to Cobb County, who subleases the land to the Marietta Air Museum.
2006-The idea is formally organized into the Aviation Museum and Discovery Center (AMDC).
2010-The AMDC lease, aircraft, and artifacts are acquired by Marietta Museum of History, Inc. and set up as an auxiliary campus know as “The Aviation Wing.”
2011-Certifications by the National Museum of Naval Aviation and the National Museum of the USAF are completed.
2015-The museum officially opens to the public.
2018-The Marietta Museum of History becomes a department of the city and the process for separation of the Aviation History & Technology Center is started.
2020-The Aviation History & Technology Center begins operations under a newly developed governance board, mission, and approach to serving the community.
